Chronic venous leg ulceration (CVLU) is a frequent complication of lower limb venous insufficiency. Many cases of CVLU, which are slow to heal and frequently recur, and finally develop into refractory ulcers, have become a difficult problem in clinical practice. This paper reviews the recent progress in the etiology of CVLU, and its staging and individualized treatment.
