In accordance to the principle of evidence-based medicine and based on the systematic review, the Society for Vascular Surgery (SVS) released the practice guidelines on the care of patients with an abdominal aortic aneurysm (AAA) in January 2018, which provides 111 specific recommendatory opinions with their levels of evidence and grades of recommendations based on GRADE criteria targeting toward five aspects that include diagnostic assessment, treatment modalities, anesthetic considerations, perioperative treatment, postoperative management, follow-up, and economics analysis. The authors interpret the new perspectives and recommendatory opinions as well as issues closely related to the clinical diagnosis and treatment in the revised guidelines, so as to help the readers in their understanding of the guidelines.
