    Abstract:

Pancreatic cancer is a lethal malignant tumor of the digestive system with a highly invasive nature and difficulty for early diagnosis. Most patients are diagnosed at a late stage, and have no chance of receiving radical surgical resection, for whom, there are also no other effective treatment options, resulting in a poor prognosis. Ferroptosis is a newly discovered iron-dependent programmed cell death characterized by intracellular iron overload, increased lipid peroxidation, and abnormal accumulation of reactive oxygen species. Recent studies have found that ferroptosis plays an important role in inhibiting the growth and proliferation of pancreatic cancer cells and can enhance the efficacy of chemotherapy drugs. So, it is expected to be a potential target for the treatment of pancreatic cancer. In this article, the authors provide an overview of the role of ferroptosis in the occurrence and development as well as treatment of pancreatic cancer.
