The inferior vena cava filter that is widely used in clinical practice is very effective in preventing the life-threatening pulmonary embolism (PE). As to the removal of IVCF, especially when the conventional methods cannot deliver the intended results, how to deal with the removal of IVCF in challenging situations, requires special attention and consideration by the performers in clinical work. In order to facilitate the application of various new types of IVCFs and retrieval techniques, the characteristics of the new instruments should be fully mastered, as well as the features and limitations of different operation methods should be known by us. This paper discusses the issues involving the difficult IVCF retrieval.
